Richard Kershaw MW established Richard Kershaw Wines in 2012 with a focus on cool-climate winemaking and site-specific wines from Elgin, one of South Africa’s coldest wine-growing regions. The Smuggler’s Boot range takes a slightly more approachable direction while still reflecting the precision and restraint associated with Kershaw’s winemaking style.
The Richard Kershaw The Smuggler’s Boot White 2019 is a Bordeaux-inspired blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, produced to balance freshness, texture and subtle complexity. Elgin’s cool conditions allow for slower ripening and naturally bright acidity, helping the wine retain clarity and aromatic lift. Careful cellar handling and restrained oak influence contribute texture without overwhelming the purity of the fruit.

Pale straw with a light green tint.
Nose:
Lifted aromas of elderflower, Meyer lemon, lime and mandarin peel lead the nose, followed by hints of pear, fresh herbs and subtle creamy notes.
Palate:
Clean, linear and energetic, with citrus-driven fruit balanced by taut acidity and a lightly rounded texture from the Sémillon component. Flavours of lime, green pear and lemon zest sit alongside delicate floral notes and a gentle mineral edge. The palate remains focused and precise rather than overtly rich.
Finish:
