Raka Wines is situated near Stanford in the Kleinrivier ward, close to the cool maritime influences of Walker Bay. Founded by former deep-sea fisherman Piet Dreyer, the estate has become known for producing expressive wines shaped by strong coastal conditions, shale-rich soils and a hands-on, practical approach to farming and winemaking.
The vineyards experience cooling ocean breezes and significant temperature variation between day and night, helping Cabernet Franc retain freshness and aromatic lift while still achieving full ripeness. The 2021 vintage was matured in French oak barrels, allowing the naturally savoury character of the varietal to integrate with subtle spice and texture.
Rather than pursuing an overtly ripe or heavily wooded style, Raka Cabernet Franc focuses on balance, varietal purity and structure - showcasing the herbaceous complexity and dark fruit character that make Cabernet Franc such a compelling food wine.

Nose:
Aromatic notes of black cherry, plum and cassis lead the nose, followed by dried herbs, graphite, tobacco leaf and subtle black pepper spice.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied with fine tannins and fresh acidity supporting layers of dark berry fruit. Cabernet Franc’s signature herbal character adds savoury complexity without dominating the palate, while careful oak maturation contributes gentle spice and structure. The overall style remains polished and balanced rather than overly heavy.
