Quoin Rock Red Blend 2021 (Diners)
Bordeaux Blend
Description
Quoin Rock Wine Estate is situated on the western slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain just outside Stellenbosch, a site known for producing some of the Cape’s most structured and age-worthy Bordeaux-style wines. The vineyards benefit from decomposed granite and clay-rich soils that provide both drainage and moisture retention, while altitude and cooling Atlantic breezes help slow ripening and preserve freshness in the fruit.
Since its revitalisation in the past decade, the estate has focused on meticulous vineyard management and small-lot winemaking. The Quoin Rock Red Blend is built around Cabernet Sauvignon, reflecting the suitability of the Simonsberg terroir for this variety. Grapes are carefully selected and fermented in small batches before extended maturation in French oak, allowing the final blend to balance power, structure and elegance in a style that bridges classical Bordeaux influence with modern Stellenbosch precision.
Colour:
Deep ruby with a dense core and youthful purple rim, suggesting concentration and careful extraction.
Nose:
Aromatic layers of baked blackberry, black cherry and cassis lead the bouquet, supported by graphite, cedar and subtle toasted oak. Hints of dark chocolate and dried herbs add depth.
Palate:
Full-bodied and structured, with a core of ripe black fruit carried by firm yet refined tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon provides backbone and intensity, while Cabernet Franc contributes aromatic lift and savoury complexity. The texture is polished with balanced acidity that keeps the wine focused and fresh.
Finish:
Long and gently savoury, with lingering notes of dark berries, graphite and subtle oak spice.

Quoin Rock Red Blend 2021 (Diners)
- Food Pairing : The depth and structure of the Quoin Rock Red Blend 2021 make it particularly suited to hearty, savoury dishes. Grilled Karoo lamb with rosemary works beautifully, as the wine’s firm tannins cut through the richness of the meat while echoing its herbal notes. A slow-braised beef short rib or oxtail stew also complements the wine’s dark fruit and savoury spice. For a simpler pairing, a chargrilled ribeye steak or mushroom-and-thyme risotto brings out the wine’s earthy undertones, while the acidity keeps the palate refreshed between bites.
