Quoin Rock Black Series Brut Rose 2019
Cap Classique
Description
Quoin Rock Estate lies on the slopes of the Simonsberg in Stellenbosch, a dramatic site shaped by altitude, varied soils, and cooling ocean influence. Under relatively recent ownership, the estate has undergone a careful rebuild, focusing on quality-driven viticulture and a clear expression of site.
The Black Series Brut Rosé 2019 reflects a multi-regional approach: Pinot Noir from cool Elgin and Stellenbosch, alongside Chardonnay from the maritime Boskloof farm in Agulhas. These diverse terroirs bring both freshness and structure, while Atlantic breezes contribute a distinct mineral edge.
Winemaking follows the traditional Cap Classique method, with secondary fermentation in bottle and extended lees ageing of around five years. This prolonged maturation builds texture and complexity, placing the wine stylistically closer to refined, Champagne-inspired sparkling wines than simple fruit-driven styles.
Colour:
Delicate salmon pink with a fine, persistent mousse.
Nose:
Redcurrant and raspberry lead, followed by strawberries and cream. Subtle notes of fresh bread dough and a light nuttiness add depth.
Palate:
Crisp and focused, with bright red berry fruit and hints of pink apple. The texture is refined, shaped by fine bubbles and balanced by lively acidity. Lees ageing brings a gentle creaminess without softening the wine’s structure.
Finish:
Clean and sustained, with lingering red fruit, a touch of brioche, and a lightly savoury edge.

Quoin Rock Black Series Brut Rose 2019
- Food Pairing : Quoin Rock Black Series Brut Rosé 2019 works well with dishes that play off its freshness and subtle richness. It’s a natural match for salmon or tuna sashimi, where the acidity and fine mousse cleanse the palate while echoing the wine’s delicate red fruit. Goat’s cheese with a berry compote highlights its creamy lees character and fruit profile, while a walnut and pear salad complements its gentle nuttiness. For something warm, lightly grilled prawns or chicken dishes with citrus elements allow the wine’s brightness and structure to shine.
