Protea Sauvignon Blanc 2025
Sauvignon Blanc
Description
Protea is one of the most recognisable everyday South African wine brands, named after the Protea - South Africa’s national flower and an emblem of the Cape Floristic Region’s remarkable biodiversity. The range is crafted under the auspices of Anthonij Rupert Wyne, a well-established wine estate rooted in the historic L’Ormarins property nestled at the foot of the Drakenstein Mountains in Franschhoek. This estate traces its modern identity to its acquisition by Dr Anton Rupert in 1968, and subsequent development by his family into one of South Africa’s most respected wine producers, blending respect for terroir with thoughtful winemaking practices.
Protea wines celebrate both the ecological richness of the Western Cape and accessible, food-friendly styles. Fruit for the Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from multiple Western Cape coastal and semi-coastal regions - including Darling, Paarl, Swartland and Franschhoek - which together bring a mosaic of fruit character and freshness to the wine. The Protea range emphasises simplicity and drinkability, making expressive wines that are bright, clean and designed for early enjoyment without sacrificing regional distinction.
Colour: Pale straw with a slight green tinge, clear and vibrant.
Nose: A lively bouquet of guava, gooseberry, kiwi and passion fruit backed by citrus overtones and subtle stone fruit hints.
Palate: Dry and refreshing, with vibrant acidity lifting flavours of grapefruit, nectarine and tropical fruit. The palate is well balanced and rounded, with a clean, crisp centre.
Finish: The finish is long and dry, threaded with citrus zest and a cool, flinty edge that keeps the wine energising and approachable.

Protea Sauvignon Blanc 2025
- Food Pairing : Protea Sauvignon Blanc 2025’s vibrant acidity and fresh fruit profile make it a terrific partner for lighter, flavourful dishes. Pair it with grilled calamari or yellowtail finished with lemon and herbs — the citrus lift in the wine echoes the seafood’s brightness. It’s also excellent with fresh salads dressed in lemon vinaigrette or mild goat’s cheese tartlets, where the wine’s zesty edge cuts through richness and keeps the palate invigorated. Grilled vegetables and herb-scented pastas also harmonise beautifully, making this Sauvignon Blanc a versatile choice for casual meals or warm-weather dining.
