Protea Rosé 2024

Description
Protea Rosé 2024 is produced by Anthonij Rupert Wyne, whose vineyards and winemaking heritage are rooted in the Western Cape. The Protea range was created to showcase modern South African wine through a more approachable, Mediterranean-inspired lens, with blends designed to emphasise freshness, texture and drinkability rather than heaviness or oak influence.
Fruit for the 2024 vintage was sourced from selected vineyards across the Coastal Region, where decomposed granite and shale soils contribute both fruit concentration and natural acidity. The grapes were harvested by hand and vinified separately before blending, with a combination of whole-bunch pressing and time on fine lees adding texture and softness to the finished wine. The result is a dry rosé that balances bright fruit with a savoury, food-friendly edge.
Colour:
Pale blush pink with delicate coral highlights and bright clarity in the glass.
Nose:
Fresh strawberry, raspberry and red cherry aromas lead the nose, followed by subtle watermelon, plum and soft floral notes.
Palate:
Juicy and lively, with flavours of ripe red berries and stone fruit balanced by crisp acidity and a gently rounded texture. Although fruit-forward, the wine remains dry and refreshing, with enough structure to make it highly versatile at the table.
Finish:
Clean and lingering, with persistent berry fruit, delicate spice and a fresh mineral edge.

Protea Rosé 2024
- Food Pairing : Protea Rosé 2024 is an easy, versatile rosé that suits relaxed South African summer dining particularly well. Its bright acidity and dry finish work naturally with grilled prawns, sushi, smoked salmon and light pasta dishes, while the soft berry fruit complements roast chicken, charcuterie and Mediterranean-style salads. The wine’s freshness also makes it a good match for mildly spiced Cape Malay dishes and picnic-style cheese boards where lighter flavours need a wine that refreshes rather than dominates.
