Pienaar & Son Distilling Co. is a small Cape Town craft distillery founded by father-and-son team Pierre and André Pienaar. Drawing on backgrounds in chemistry and engineering, the distillery has developed a reputation for producing contemporary South African spirits with strong storytelling and bold flavour profiles.
Orient Gin pays tribute to the historic Eastern spice trade that shaped Cape Town’s food culture and trading history. Distilled from neutral grain spirit made from South African maize, the gin is infused with botanicals selected to reflect warm spice, citrus and aromatic intensity. Rather than pursuing a traditional London Dry profile, Pienaar & Son leans into a more expressive and modern style, balancing fiery spice with softer citrus and vanilla notes for a gin that feels distinctive, layered and unmistakably Cape Town in character.

Nose:
Intense aromas of mandarin orange, citrus peel and warming spice rise immediately from the glass. Layers of cassia, ginger and allspice are softened by subtle vanilla sweetness and floral undertones.
Palate:
Bold and full-flavoured, showing a lively combination of citrus freshness and warming spice. Sweet vanilla and mandarin notes lead into ginger, cassia bark and peppery spice, while the texture remains smooth and rounded despite the gin’s intensity. Juniper remains present but plays a supporting role to the spice-forward profile.

Long and warming, with lingering citrus oil, spice and soft vanilla sweetness.
