Piekenierskloof Wine Company works high on the Citrusdal plateau, where dry-land, bush-trained vineyards planted decades ago yield small, intensely flavoured grapes. For the Samson Old Vine NV, fully ripe Muscat de Frontignan bunches are dried on straw for concentrated sweetness and aromatic complexity before pressing and slow fermentation. Extended maturation in French oak adds texture and weight while preserving the fruit’s bright, sun-kissed character. This wine reflects both the rugged, elevated terroir of Piekenierskloof and a traditional style of winemaking that celebrates intense fruit and old vine concentration.
Colour: Deep golden amber with glints of honey-edged warmth.
Nose: Rich aromas of dried apricot, peach essence and honey, lifted by subtle floral notes and hints of citrus peel. The sweetness is vivid but poised with balancing aromatics.
Palate: Sumptuously sweet and concentrated, with layers of candied apricot, quince and marmalade. Well-balanced acidity keeps the palate lively, while oak-derived texture lends depth without heaviness.
