Old Pulteney 18 Year Old Single Malt Whisky
Whisky : Scottish
Description
Produced in the northern harbour town of Wick, Old Pulteney Distillery has long been known as one of Scotland’s most maritime whisky producers. Established in 1826, the distillery sits close to the North Sea, where salty air and cool coastal conditions subtly influence maturation over time. This maritime character has become a defining thread through the Old Pulteney range.
The Old Pulteney 18-Year-Old is matured primarily in second-fill American oak ex-bourbon barrels before a finishing period in Spanish oak casks seasoned with sherry. The result is a whisky that balances the distillery’s coastal freshness with deeper layers of dried fruit, spice and oak complexity. Bottled without chill filtration and at a slightly higher strength, it retains texture and structure while allowing the spirit’s natural character to remain clear.
Colour:
Deep amber with polished golden highlights.
Nose:
Honey, dried apricot and orange peel lead the aromatics, followed by layers of vanilla, toasted nuts and gentle sea salt. Hints of dark chocolate, polished oak and warming spice emerge with time.
Palate:
Smooth and full-bodied, with flavours of toffee, dried fruit and baked apple balanced by a subtle saline edge. The bourbon casks bring softness and vanilla richness, while the sherry influence adds depth through notes of raisin, cinnamon and roasted nuts. Oak spice is present but integrated, giving the whisky shape without overpowering the fruit.
Finish:
Long and warming, carrying lingering notes of salted caramel, orange zest, oak spice and gentle coastal brine.

- Food Pairing : Old Pulteney 18 Year Old pairs particularly well with dishes that combine richness and savoury depth. Roast pork belly or glazed duck work beautifully alongside the whisky’s sweet spice and dried fruit character, while grilled seafood - especially scallops or line fish with brown butter - highlights its coastal freshness and saline edge. Mature hard cheeses such as aged gouda or comté complement the whisky’s nutty oak profile, and a dark chocolate tart or sticky toffee pudding draws out its caramel and orange peel notes without overwhelming the spirit.
