Nitida The Matriarch Cap Classique 2023
Cap Classique
Description
Nitida Wine Estate lies in the cool-climate hills of Durbanville, just north of Cape Town, where vineyards benefit from steady Atlantic breezes and moderate daytime temperatures. This maritime influence slows ripening, helping grapes retain natural acidity - a crucial element in crafting refined Cap Classique.
Founded by the Corbett family, Nitida has built a reputation for small-production wines that prioritise detail and balance over scale. The estate’s approach blends traditional methods with careful vineyard management, allowing the character of Durbanville’s decomposed granite and clay soils to show through in the glass.
Nitida The Matriarch Cap Classique 2023 is produced in the traditional method, with secondary fermentation in bottle and extended lees contact to develop texture and complexity. Named in honour of the family matriarch, the wine reflects both the estate’s heritage and its measured, thoughtful winemaking style.
Colour:
Pale straw with a fine, persistent bead and bright clarity in the glass.
Nose:
Fresh lemon zest, green apple and white peach lead the aromatics, followed by hints of toasted brioche, almond and subtle biscuit notes from lees ageing.
Palate:
Crisp and energetic with lively acidity. Flavours of citrus, orchard fruit and a touch of nectarine sit alongside gentle creaminess and delicate yeasty complexity. The mousse is fine and well-integrated, giving the wine a smooth, polished texture.
Finish:
Clean and refreshing, with lingering notes of lemon peel and lightly toasted pastry.

- Food Pairing : The bright acidity and fine mousse of Nitida The Matriarch Cap Classique 2023 make it a versatile partner at the table. It works particularly well with fresh oysters or West Coast mussels, where the wine’s citrus lift enhances the natural salinity of the seafood. The gentle creaminess from lees ageing also complements dishes like smoked salmon blinis or a simple goat’s cheese tart. For a more relaxed pairing, try it with lightly battered fish and chips or sushi - the acidity cuts through richness while keeping the palate refreshed.
