Nitida Calligraphy 2022
Bordeaux Blend
Description
Nitida Wine Farm is located in the Durbanville Wine Valley, just north of Cape Town, where vineyards benefit from strong maritime influence from the nearby Atlantic Ocean. Cooling sea breezes and frequent morning mists help moderate the warm Cape climate, allowing grapes to ripen slowly while retaining freshness and structure.
The farm is a small, family-owned producer known for crafting expressive wines that reflect Durbanville’s slightly cooler growing conditions. Clay-rich soils in the vineyards help retain moisture and support steady vine growth, contributing to the balance and texture often seen in the estate’s red wines.
Nitida Calligraphy is the estate’s Bordeaux-style flagship blend, bringing together several classic varieties to create a layered and structured wine. Each component is vinified separately before careful blending and maturation in oak barrels, allowing the varieties to complement one another while preserving the character of the Durbanville terroir.
Colour:
Deep ruby-red with youthful crimson highlights, showing good depth and intensity in the glass.
Nose:
Aromatic notes of blackcurrant, mulberry and ripe cherry lead the bouquet. Subtle hints of cedar, baking spice and dark chocolate add complexity without overpowering the fruit.
Palate:
Full-bodied yet composed, with rich dark-fruit flavours supported by smooth tannins. Merlot brings softness and roundness, while Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc provide structure and savoury depth. Gentle oak notes add warmth and texture while allowing the fruit to remain the focus.
Finish:
Long and smooth, with lingering dark berry flavours and a subtle mocha-like note on the finish.

Nitida Calligraphy 2022
- Food Pairing : Nitida Calligraphy 2022 pairs well with dishes that match its depth and structure. Grilled sirloin steak or roast beef works beautifully, as the wine’s firm tannins and dark fruit complement the richness of the meat. Slow-cooked beef brisket or lamb stew also pairs naturally, allowing the wine’s savoury and spice notes to echo the dish’s depth. For a vegetarian option, a mushroom and thyme pie or roasted root vegetables bring out the wine’s earthy undertones while its acidity keeps the pairing balanced and fresh.
