Morgenster Tosca 2021

Morgenster Estate, family-owned since Italian founder Giulio Bertrand brought his winemaking passion to the Helderberg in the early 1990s, sits on the cool, ocean-influenced slopes of Stellenbosch. The estate combines Cape terroir with varietal traditions from Europe, notably Italy, where Sangiovese thrives. In the Tosca 2021, this Tuscan influence meets South African structure: Sangiovese takes centre stage, joined by carefully chosen Bordeaux companions. Fruit ripens slowly here thanks to cool afternoons and well-drained soils, giving wines that balance expressive fruit, savoury detail and refined oak influence.

Colour:
Clear ruby with a medium depth and youthful red-fruit hue.

Nose:
Inviting aromas of dried cherry and plum are lifted by tobacco leaf, Mediterranean herbs like rosemary and thyme, and warm spice from judicious oak.

Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied, the palate is layered with red and dark fruit, gentle savoury notes and soft, velvety tannins. There’s an approachable structure, balanced acidity and a subtle savouriness that echoes the nose.

Finish:
The finish is sustained and smooth, with lingering spice and herbal warmth adding complexity to the ripe fruit core.
