Monks Medella Gin 50ml
Gin
Description
Produced by Monks Distillery in the Breede Valley of the Western Cape, Monks Medella Gin reflects a distinctly modern South African approach to craft distilling. The distillery was established in 2018 by Nic and Di Davis on a working farm near the Breede River, becoming South Africa’s first off-grid gin distillery. Surrounded by mountain landscapes and indigenous flora, the distillery focuses on small-batch production using locally sourced botanicals and crystal-clear mountain water.
The Medella expression is infused with blueberries grown on the farm itself, giving the gin a softer berry-driven profile while still retaining a classic juniper backbone. Double-distilled in copper alembic stills and bottled with minimal intervention, the gin balances traditional dry gin structure with a more contemporary fruit-led style.
Colour:
Crystal clear and bright in the glass.
Nose:
Fresh juniper and citrus peel lead initially, followed by ripe blueberry aromas, soft floral botanicals and subtle Cape buchu complexity. There is a gentle herbal lift beneath the fruit.
Palate:
Smooth and rounded with a clean, dry texture. Blueberry notes add gentle sweetness and freshness without becoming overly fruity, while juniper, coriander and citrus maintain structure and balance. The mouthfeel is soft and approachable with delicate spice in the background.
Finish:
Clean and lingering, with notes of dried berries, citrus zest and soft herbal spice carrying through the finish.

- Food Pairing : Monks Medella Gin works particularly well with lighter dishes and fresh ingredients that complement its berry and botanical profile. Try it with smoked salmon blinis, berry-glazed pork skewers or a charcuterie board with soft cheeses and cured meats. The blueberry notes also pair naturally with duck dishes and salads containing goat’s cheese or fresh berries, while a simple tonic with fresh lemon or rosemary allows the gin’s softer fruit character to remain the focus.
