Marianne Floreal 2010
Blend:Red
Description
Marianne Wine Estate, situated on the foothills of the Simonsberg between Stellenbosch and Paarl, reflects a meeting point of South African terroir and French winemaking tradition. The estate was established by Bordeaux owner Christian Dauriac, bringing Right Bank sensibilities to the Cape winelands - an influence clearly seen in the structure and blending philosophy of its flagship wines.
The Simonsberg-Paarl area benefits from warm days moderated by cooling southern breezes, helping grapes ripen fully while retaining balance and aromatic detail. Vineyards grow on medium-textured soils and receive moderate rainfall, encouraging concentrated fruit without excessive irrigation.
At Marianne, grapes are hand-harvested and vinified separately before blending, with extended maturation in French oak barrels. The result is a style that balances the generosity of South African fruit with the structure and ageing potential associated with classic Bordeaux blends.
Colour:
Deep garnet with a slightly brick-tinged rim, reflecting both concentration and gentle bottle evolution.
Nose:
Layered aromas of dried blackcurrant and plum lead the way, followed by hints of black pepper, cedar, and subtle floral notes. As it opens, touches of spice and oak complexity emerge.
Palate:
Full-bodied yet composed, with flavours of dark berries, cassis and savoury spice. The Merlot component lends roundness through the mid-palate, while Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and Shiraz adds gentle peppery warmth. Tannins are firm but integrated, giving the wine a poised, mature feel.
Finish:
Long and savoury, leaving lingering impressions of dark fruit, spice and fine oak tannin.

Marianne Floreal 2010
- Food Pairing : The structure and maturity of Marianne Floreal 2010 make it particularly well suited to richer dishes. It pairs naturally with slow-roasted beef, grilled ribeye or venison, where the wine’s tannins soften against the protein and fat. The savoury spice and evolved dark fruit also complement dishes like lamb shank with rosemary or duck with a red wine reduction. For something simpler, mature hard cheeses or charcuterie allow the wine’s layered character to shine without overwhelming the palate.
