Lomond Phantom Pinot Noir 2022
Pinot Noir
Description
Lomond Wine Estate sits near the southernmost tip of Africa in Cape Agulhas, where cool ocean breezes from both the Indian and Atlantic coasts foster a slow, even ripening season that Pinot Noir thrives on. The Phantom Pinot Noir 2022 comes from hand-picked, hand-sorted fruit grown on south-westerly facing blocks planted on sandy, gravelly soils with a clay substructure. This maritime terroir helps preserve bright acidity, delicate aromatics and refined structure. After fermentation in open barrels and gentle malolactic conversion, the wine is matured in older French oak to add subtle complexity while letting the pure fruit character shine. The result is an elegant, terroir-driven Pinot Noir that captures both place and method with nuance.
Colour: Light brilliant red - clear and radiant in the glass, a hallmark of cool-climate Pinot Noir.
Nose: Fragrant and expressive, opening with rose petal and subtle oriental spice, followed by wild red-berried fruit such as raspberry and cherry, and a delicate earthy undertow that adds depth.
Palate: Medium-bodied with bright, fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins. Flavours of red cherry, raspberry and gentle savoury spice are accented by a touch of subtle oak, creating a silky yet structured palate that’s refined rather than heavy.
Finish: Clean and lingering, with red fruit and spice notes that gently persist on the palate, inviting the next sip.

Lomond Phantom Pinot Noir 2022
- Food Pairing : The elegant structure and bright fruit of Lomond Phantom Pinot Noir 2022 make it a versatile partner for a range of dishes with coaxing depth rather than overt weight. Try it with grilled duck breast or seared salmon with a berry-based reduction — the wine’s acidity and delicate spice lift richer fats. Roasted free-range chicken with herbs or a light lamb tagine offers a satisfying savoury match that echoes the wine’s earthier notes, while mushroom risotto with Parmesan brings out its red fruit nuances without overpowering its finesse.
- Drink before: 5–7 years with careful ageing; Pinot Noir’s finesse and structure here support medium-term development.
