Lomond Wine Estate is perched on the Agulhas Plain near the southernmost tip of Africa, where the cool Indian and Atlantic Oceans converge to create one of South Africa’s most compelling cool-climate wine regions. The estate’s patchwork of slate, sandstone and granite soils, combined with maritime breezes and the surrounding indigenous fynbos landscape, helps grapes retain freshness, spice and varietal clarity. The Belladonna SMV 2020 is named for the endemic Amaryllis belladonna flower, reflecting both local biodiversity and Lomond’s commitment to terroir-driven wines. Crafted from individually fermented parcels of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Viognier with careful oak maturation, this single-vineyard blend balances vibrant fruit, savoury depth and subtle complexity without unnecessary extravagance.
Colour: Deep vermilion edged with a darker maroon hue - vibrant and concentrated in the glass.
Nose: The bouquet opens with juicy red fruits - ripe raspberry, plum and red currant - woven with spicy notes and a faintly smoky floral character. Savoury hints of dark chocolate, cracked pepper and subtle earth add nuance.
Palate: Medium- to full-bodied with vibrant red and black fruit flavours at the core. Silky tannins and balanced acidity support plush fruit, while Mourvèdre brings savoury spice and Syrah contributes a peppery backbone. A touch of Viognier rounds the palate with gentle floral lift.
