LGD The Pledge Our Barrels Chardonnay 2023
Description
LGD (Le Grand Domaine), part of the Stellenview portfolio, works with vineyards across Stellenbosch - including Devon Valley - to craft wines that highlight both site and winemaking precision. The region’s decomposed shale and iron-rich soils, combined with warm days and cooling maritime influence, allow Chardonnay to ripen fully while retaining structure.
The “Our Barrels” range focuses on oak-driven expression, where barrel fermentation and maturation play a central role. Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected, with fermentation beginning in stainless steel before moving into French oak barrels for extended ageing. The aim is not overt richness, but integration - where fruit, oak, and acidity sit comfortably together, giving a classic Stellenbosch Chardonnay profile.
Colour:
Light straw with a soft golden tint.
Nose:
Ripe stone fruit - peach and nectarine - alongside lemon and subtle citrus zest. Layers of toasted hazelnut, vanilla and a hint of brioche add depth.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied with a creamy texture from oak maturation. Flavours of orchard fruit and citrus are supported by notes of roasted nuts and gentle spice. The acidity keeps the wine focused, preventing the richness from becoming heavy, while oak remains well integrated.
Finish:
Smooth and lingering, with citrus brightness balanced by soft, nutty oak and a lightly creamy edge.

LGD The Pledge Our Barrels Chardonnay 2023
- Food Pairing : The LGD The Pledge Our Barrels Chardonnay 2023 is well suited to richer dishes where its texture and oak can complement flavour. It pairs particularly well with roast chicken or pork, where the wine’s creamy palate mirrors the dish while acidity keeps things balanced. Butter-based seafood - such as grilled prawns or line fish - works naturally, as the citrus notes cut through richness. It also suits creamy pastas or mushroom risotto, where the subtle nuttiness and oak spice echo savoury elements on the plate.
