L'Avenir Provenance Pinotage 2023
Pinotage
Description
L'Avenir Wine Estate sits on the northern and western slopes of Simonsberg Mountain in the heart of Stellenbosch, where warm days, cooling breezes and well-drained soils produce ripe, expressive grapes. The Provenance range is rooted in this terroir: vines are planted on Glenrosa and Oakleaf soils that lend structure and clarity, while the moderate South African climate helps preserve natural acidity and purity of fruit.
L’Avenir’s winemaking blends South African spirit with a touch of French flair, a hallmark of the estate since its founding in the early 1990s. The Provenance Pinotage is vinified with care to showcase the varietal’s signature perfume and finesse rather than sheer power - a style that reflects both respect for Pinotage’s Cape origins and thoughtful, balanced cellar craft.
Colour:
Bright ruby with youthful depth and a clear rim.
Nose:
Distinct aromas of black cherries and juicy plums are complemented by hints of crushed pomegranate and subtle spice, typical of modern Stellenbosch Pinotage.
Palate:
Medium-bodied and smooth, the palate carries fine-grained, silky tannins framing flavours of ripe plum, red and black fruits and a touch of gentle oak spice. The fruit remains at the forefront, with balanced acidity providing lift.
Finish:
A refined finish with lingering berry notes and a soft savoury edge, leaving a clean, composed impression.

L'Avenir Provenance Pinotage 2023
- Food Pairing : L’Avenir Provenance Pinotage 2023 pairs beautifully with dishes that echo its medium weight and savoury-fruit character. South African-style braised oxtail or a tomato-based beef potjie match the wine’s gentle tannins and acidity, while a fragrant Cape Malay bobotie highlights the postcard spice notes in the palate. For something simpler, grilled lamb chops with a herb rub or charred mushroom risotto bring out the wine’s red fruit brightness and smooth texture, making it a versatile table companion.
