L'Avenir Provenance Pinotage 2022
Pinotage
Description
L’Avenir Wine Estate sits just outside Stellenbosch on the slopes of Simonsberg Mountain, one of the Cape’s most respected sites for structured red wines. The vineyards enjoy warm sunny days tempered by cooling mountain and ocean influences, allowing grapes to ripen slowly while maintaining freshness and aromatic precision.
The estate has built a strong reputation around Pinotage and Chenin Blanc, with a focus on expressing the character of Stellenbosch terroir through careful vineyard management and balanced winemaking. The Provenance range represents the heart of the estate’s philosophy: wines that highlight fruit purity, site expression and approachability without excessive oak or manipulation.
For the L'Avenir Provenance Pinotage 2022, grapes were hand-harvested from selected vineyards planted mainly on Glenrosa and Oakleaf soils, both known for producing structured Stellenbosch reds. After cold maceration and fermentation, the wine matured for around 18 months in a combination of French oak barrels and stainless steel, building texture while preserving the variety’s vibrant fruit character.
Colour:
Bright ruby red with a youthful purple rim, clear and vibrant in the glass.
Nose:
Fragrant and expressive with aromas of cherries, mulberries and black cherry, followed by floral hints and gentle sweet spice typical of Pinotage.
Palate:
Medium-bodied with silky, fine-grained tannins. Juicy flavours of plum, pomegranate and black cherry sit at the centre, supported by subtle spice and a touch of oak complexity. The structure is polished and balanced, highlighting a refined style of modern Pinotage.
Finish:
Smooth and lingering, leaving notes of red berries and delicate spice with a clean, elegant close.

- Food Pairing : The fruit-forward yet structured character of L'Avenir Provenance Pinotage 2022 makes it a versatile partner at the table. It pairs particularly well with braaied lamb chops or flame-grilled beef, where the wine’s fine tannins complement the richness of the meat. The subtle sweet spice in the wine also works beautifully with Cape Malay dishes such as bobotie or mildly spiced curries, while earthy options like roasted mushrooms or aubergine highlight Pinotage’s savoury side. The balance of fruit, spice and acidity allows the wine to handle both hearty and gently spiced dishes with ease.
