L'Avenir Provenance Classic 2023
Non-Bordeaux Blend
Description
L'Avenir Wine Estate sits on the foothills of the Simonsberg Mountains in Stellenbosch, an area long regarded as one of South Africa’s premier red wine regions. The estate has become particularly associated with Pinotage, producing wines that combine the variety’s distinctive Cape character with greater refinement and freshness.
The Provenance Classic range reflects L'Avenir’s philosophy of expressing place through approachable, balanced wines that still carry depth and structure. Vineyards benefit from decomposed granite soils and cooling maritime influences that help preserve acidity during Stellenbosch’s warm growing season.
The 2023 blend combines Pinotage with Bordeaux varieties to create a wine that feels distinctly South African while drawing on classic blending traditions. Careful oak maturation and gentle extraction allow fruit purity and texture to remain central, avoiding the overly heavy style sometimes associated with warmer-climate reds.
Colour:
Deep ruby with a vibrant garnet hue.
Nose:
Dark cherry, black plum and cassis aromas lead the nose, layered with notes of cedar, mocha, sweet spice and a touch of dried fynbos.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied, showing ripe berry fruit balanced by savoury depth and polished tannins. The Pinotage adds plush texture and subtle smoky character, while Cabernet Sauvignon brings structure and freshness. Merlot rounds out the palate with softness and dark fruit richness.
Finish:
Smooth and persistent, with lingering blackberry, spice and gentle oak notes.

L'Avenir Provenance Classic 2023
- Food Pairing : L'Avenir Provenance Classic 2023 pairs comfortably with hearty but not overly rich dishes. It works particularly well with braaied beef sirloin, lamb koftas, roast pork or tomato-based pasta dishes where the wine’s dark fruit and savoury spice can complement smoky and herb-driven flavours. The polished tannins also make it a good match for mature cheeses and grilled mushrooms, while the freshness keeps the palate balanced alongside richer meals.
