La Vierge Storyteller Syrah 2022
Shiraz / Syrah
Description
La Vierge Wines sits on the cool maritime slopes of Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge in Walker Bay, one of South Africa’s most intriguing cool-climate appellations. Here, southerly breezes and morning sea mists from the nearby Atlantic temper summer heat, allowing Syrah to ripen slowly and retain freshness and perfume.
The Storyteller Syrah 2022 is part of La Vierge’s narrative-driven range where each bottle reflects a tale - in this case “The Giant Tortoise & The Clever Monkey,” a legend of wit and wisdom. Vineyard practices emphasize precise early-morning harvests and careful selection, while in the cellar this Syrah spends about 12 months maturing in French oak, adding complexity without overshadowing varietal purity.
The result is an elegant expression of cool-climate Syrah reflecting balanced fruit, spice, and a mineral spine - approachable yet with enough structure to reward thoughtful sipping.
Colour:
Medium ruby with a luminous core, reflecting gentle ripening and cool-climate brightness.
Nose:
The bouquet opens with ripe plum and dark cherry framed by savoury spice notes - cracked black pepper, cinnamon and cloves - with subtle floral lift and spots of crushed coriander.
Palate:
On the palate this Syrah shows ripe dark fruits with a plush entry, complemented by fine tannins and fresh acidity that bring focus. Integrated oak adds cinnamon-spice nuances and gently broadens the palate without dominance.
Finish:
The finish is energetic and lingering, with dark fruit echoes and spice that invite another sip, making this a wine you can enjoy now or revisit over the next few years.

La Vierge Storyteller Syrah 2022
- Food Pairing : La Vierge StoryTeller Syrah 2022 sits beautifully alongside South African dishes that echo its dark fruit and savoury spice profile. Try it with a spice-rubbed lamb loin - the wine’s peppery notes match the char and the acidity cuts through the richness. A braised beef potjie with mushrooms and herbs will bring out the wine’s plummy core, while a platter of grilled boerewors with roasted red peppers and rosemary lets the wine’s freshness and fine tannins balance richer, smoky flavours. Rustic hard cheeses like aged cheddar or parmesan also play nicely with its savoury spice.
