La Vierge Private Cellar lies in the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge above Hermanus in Walker Bay, one of South Africa’s most distinctive cool-climate wine regions. Proximity to the Atlantic Ocean brings regular sea breezes and morning mists that moderate summer heat, allowing grapes to ripen slowly while retaining natural freshness and aromatic lift.
The Storyteller Collection reflects the estate’s creative approach to wine, where each label represents a narrative inspired by nature and mythology. The La Vierge Storyteller Red Blend 2022, titled “The Up-Side Down Tree of Life – A Tale of Pride and Plenty”, brings together Rhône, Bordeaux and Italian grape varieties grown in the Hemel-en-Aarde vineyards. The wine matured for around twelve months in French oak, allowing structure and subtle spice to develop while preserving the freshness typical of Walker Bay reds.

Deep ruby with a vibrant garnet rim, showing good clarity and moderate concentration.
Nose:
Aromatic notes of plum, dark cherry, blueberry and mulberry lead the bouquet, with lifted floral hints and subtle dried herbs adding complexity.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied with juicy dark fruit at the core. The blend shows a rounded texture supported by fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity, while gentle oak maturation adds hints of spice and depth.
Finish:
Long and elegant, with lingering dark berry fruit and a subtle mineral edge that reflects its cool-climate origin.
