La Vierge is a boutique winery in the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, where cool Atlantic breezes and mixed shale-and-clay soils give Chardonnay a natural tension and clarity. Part of the producer’s Storyteller Collection, the 2024 Chardonnay - also known as “The Turtle & The Shark” - reflects both its coastal terroir and a narrative approach to winemaking that blends careful vineyard selection with balanced oak treatment. Hand-harvested fruit from multiple blocks is gently pressed and fermented in Burgundian oak, with extended lees contact adding texture and depth while letting site-driven freshness shine.
Colour: Pale straw with a subtle sheen that hints at freshness and precision.
Nose: Aromas of lime zest, white florals and stone fruit unfold with a gentle mineral undercurrent, reflecting the clay-and-shale influence of Hemel-en-Aarde soils.
Palate: Crisp acidity and vibrant tension give shape to citrus, orchard fruit and mineral notes. A period of barrel fermentation and lees ageing adds a refined texture - there’s a gentle creaminess that supports freshness without overshadowing varietal purity.
Finish: Clean and poised, with lingering lime and a touch of flinty minerality that keeps the finish engaging and refreshing.
