La Vierge Estate Pinot Noir 2023
Pinot Noir
Description
La Vierge Estate lies on the serene slopes of the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, where cool maritime influence and clay-rich Bokkeveld shale soils help Pinot Noir ripen with purity and balance. Founded by the Clarke family more than twenty years ago, this family-run vineyard focuses on dryland farming and producing expressive, terroir-driven wines. The 2023 Pinot Noir was made from carefully tended vines, hand-picked at optimal ripeness and fermented with a portion of whole bunches to enhance complexity. Extended maturation in seasoned oak barrels adds subtle structure while preserving the wine’s fresh fruit and elegant profile, reflecting La Vierge’s philosophy of letting site and varietal character shine.
Colour: Bright ruby with a translucent rim, promising lively character.
Nose: Perfumed aromas of ripe plum, cherry and violets unfold with gentle spice hints - think cracked black pepper, clove and a touch of forest floor.
Palate: Medium-bodied and expressive, the palate balances lush dark fruit with vibrant acidity. Fine, textured tannins and subtle oak integration support savoury spice and earthy nuances, making each sip feel refined yet approachable.
Finish: A lingering finish where red berry notes, spice and soft savoury undertones carry beautifully.

La Vierge Estate Pinot Noir 2023
- Food Pairing : La Vierge Estate Pinot Noir 2023 pairs wonderfully with dishes that mirror its elegance and bright acidity. Try it with roast duck breast with cranberry-fig jus, where the wine’s cherry and spice notes enhance the rich, game flavours. A wild mushroom risotto will echo the wine’s earthy complexity, while a herb-crusted pork tenderloin highlights its savoury lift without overpowering the delicate red fruit. For cheese, mild to medium-firm options like Camembert or Gruyère bring out the wine’s savoury-fruited nuances.
- Drink before: Best enjoyed now through 2027–2029. Light oak and vibrant acidity support medium-term development.
