La Motte Chardonnay 2024
Chardonnay
Description
La Motte sits in the Franschhoek Valley where south / south‑west facing slopes around 200 m above sea level give Chardonnay fruit good balance of ripeness and natural acidity. The estate combines careful, site‑focused viticulture (low yields, selective picking) with a classical cellar approach: initial tank fermentation followed by barrel fermentation and maturation (300‑litre French oak, ~20% new), partial malolactic fermentation and lees work to add texture rather than overt oakiness. The result is a stylistically modern Franschhoek Chardonnay - focused on clarity, gentle creaminess and varietal precision.
Colour:
Light straw with bright clarity.
Nose:
Intense citrus blossom and mandarin lift, with winter melon and stone‑fruit layers. A delicate suggestion of French nougat/pistachio and gentle lees character adds complexity without obvious new‑oak vanillin.
Palate:
Silky and juicy with medium body. Citrus and nectarine fruit lead, supported by fine lees‑derived texture and a discreet nutty/cream note from barrel maturation and partial malolactic fermentation. Acidity is fresh and keeps the wine lively.
Finish:
Clean, bright and lingering - think lemon‑meringue tart echoes with a soft savoury note on the close.

La Motte Chardonnay 2024
- Food Pairing : This La Motte Chardonnay 2024 pairs well with richer seafood (grilled linefish, prawns in a light butter and lemon sauce or Cape rock lobster), creamy seafood dishes such as prawn linguine or a coquille St‑Jacques style preparation, and soft, creamy cheeses — the wine’s citrus lift and lees texture cut through richness while its subtle oak complements buttery and nutty flavours. It also works nicely with roast chicken with herb butter or a mushroom risotto where the wine’s freshness balances creaminess.
- Drink before: Drink now–2028. Built for early drinking with bright fruit and balanced oak/lees texture; will gain subtle bottle complexity over 3–4 years but is not made for long‑term cellaring.
