Joseph Barry XO Brandy

Joseph Barry Cape Brandy is produced by the historic Barrydale Cellar in the small town of Barrydale on the edge of the Klein Karoo, along the famous Route 62 in the Western Cape. The cellar takes its name from Joseph Barry, an Irish merchant who played a significant role in developing trade routes between the Overberg and the Klein Karoo during the 19th century.

Barrydale’s warm, dry climate provides ideal conditions for producing base wines destined for brandy distillation. These wines are traditionally distilled in copper pot stills and matured slowly in oak barrels, following methods similar to those used in Cognac production.

The Joseph Barry XO Cape Brandy represents the pinnacle of the cellar’s brandy range, crafted from carefully selected pot-still brandies matured for extended periods in oak. The result is a spirit that reflects both South African craftsmanship and the heritage of Cape brandy production.

Colour:
Deep amber with warm copper hues.

Nose:
Complex aromas of dried apricot, toasted almond and orange peel unfold alongside hints of vanilla, caramel and gentle oak spice.

Palate:
Smooth and rounded with layers of dried fruit, honey and roasted nuts. Notes of toffee and baking spice add depth, while the well-integrated oak gives structure without overpowering the fruit.

Finish:
Long and warming with lingering notes of caramelised sugar, spice and soft oak.
