Hermanuspietersfontein, often shortened to HPF, is a distinctive Walker Bay producer known for characterful wines named in Afrikaans and a serious commitment to quality. Their vineyards in Sondagskloof benefit from a cool maritime climate, steady ocean influence and well-drained soils that encourage slow, even ripening. These conditions are especially well suited to Cabernet Franc, allowing aromatic complexity and freshness alongside ripe tannin structure. Swartskaap is the estate’s iconic single-varietal Cabernet Franc, sourced from a central vineyard block and matured extensively before release to build texture, harmony and ageing potential.

Nose:
Layered aromas of blackcurrant, raspberry and dark plum lead the nose, followed by black olive, fynbos, rosemary and savoury spice.

Full-bodied yet composed, with dense dark fruit, supple tannins and impressive concentration. Notes of milk chocolate, dried herbs and subtle oak complexity add depth, while natural freshness keeps the wine poised and energetic.
