Holden Manz Big G 2020
Bordeaux Blend
Description
Holden Manz is a boutique wine estate situated on the southern slopes of the Franschhoek Valley, where mountain influences, varied soils and warm daytime conditions combine to produce concentrated yet balanced red wines. The estate has become known for small-production wines that favour careful vineyard selection and restrained, detail-focused winemaking over excessive extraction or overt oak influence.
The Holden Manz Big G 2020 is the estate’s flagship Bordeaux-style blend, built predominantly around Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller portions of Cabernet Franc and Merlot adding aromatic lift and texture. The grapes were hand-harvested from selected vineyard blocks during a moderately warm but windy growing season, which resulted in smaller berries with excellent concentration. Wild fermentation and extended maturation in French oak barrels helped shape the wine’s layered structure while preserving freshness and fruit purity.
Colour:
Deep ruby with a dense garnet core and youthful purple edge.
Nose:
Cassis, blackberry and mulberry dominate the aromatics, supported by graphite, cedar wood and pencil shavings. Notes of dark plum, violet and subtle tobacco emerge with time in the glass.
Palate:
Full-bodied and concentrated, yet polished rather than heavy. Plush black fruit flavours are carried by silky tannins and balanced acidity, giving the wine both richness and structure. Layers of cocoa, clove and savoury spice add depth alongside the Cabernet-driven cassis character.
Finish:
Long and composed, with lingering dark fruit, cedar spice and fine tannins carrying through the finish.

Holden Manz Big G 2020
- Food Pairing : The Holden Manz Big G 2020 pairs naturally with richer red meat dishes where its structure and concentration can fully shine. Beef Wellington, slow-roasted lamb shoulder or a chargrilled ribeye work especially well with the wine’s cassis-driven fruit and firm yet polished tannins. The savoury cedar and graphite notes also complement venison, mushroom-based dishes and mature hard cheeses beautifully. Decanting before serving helps soften the wine’s youthful structure and allows the layered aromatics to open more fully.
