High Constantia Shiraz 2020 (FWA)
Shiraz / Syrah
Description
High Constantia is a boutique wine estate set on the upper slopes of the Constantiaberg mountain range in the historic Constantia Valley, one of South Africa’s oldest and most respected wine regions. With vineyards positioned at higher elevations and influenced by cooling breezes from nearby False Bay, the area provides a cooler growing environment that allows grapes to ripen slowly while preserving natural acidity and aromatic intensity.
The vineyards are planted on decomposed granite soils, which encourage good drainage and contribute to the refined structure found in the wines. High Constantia focuses on small-batch production, with careful vineyard management and hand harvesting ensuring only the best fruit is selected. The Shiraz is fermented in small lots and matured in French oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop depth while maintaining the bright fruit and savoury spice that characterize cool-climate Syrah from Constantia.
Colour:
Deep ruby with a vibrant purple edge, showing youthful concentration in the glass.
Nose:
Aromatic layers of blackberry, plum and dark cherry are complemented by notes of cracked black pepper, violet and subtle hints of cedar and spice from oak maturation.

Finish:
Long and elegant, with lingering dark fruit, peppery spice and a subtle savoury note.

- Food Pairing : High Constantia Shiraz 2020 pairs well with richly flavoured but balanced dishes. Grilled lamb chops with rosemary highlight the wine’s peppery spice and dark fruit character, while slow-cooked beef brisket or short ribs match its depth and structure. For a vegetarian option, roasted aubergine with herbs or a mushroom risotto works beautifully, as the earthy flavours echo the wine’s savoury undertones while its acidity keeps the palate refreshed.
