Hasher Ernest Pinot Noir 2023
Pinot Noir
Description
Hasher Family Wines is a boutique estate in the picturesque Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, where cool winds off the South Atlantic balance sunshine to produce excelling fruit for delicate varieties like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The estate blends traditional vineyard care with minimal winemaking intervention, letting the site’s decomposed granite soils and nuanced climate express themselves in the wines. The Ernest Pinot Noir, named after the owners’ eldest son, is Hasher’s signature red - crafted to showcase both varietal purity and the expressive character of its maritime terroir.
Colour:
Bright, translucent ruby-red - classic for cool-climate Pinot Noir.
Nose:
Fragrant and inviting, with wild strawberry and sour cherry at the forefront, complemented by subtle herbal complexity and an intriguing hint of Earl Grey tea or floral perfume.
Palate:
Light to medium-bodied with vibrant acidity, the fruit profile carries fresh red berry flavours - think pomegranate and red cherry - alongside savoury nuances. Tannins are soft and powdery, giving structure without heaviness, and nuanced oak adds gentle spice without overwhelming the fruit.
Finish:
Clean and balanced with lingering red fruit and an elegant sense of freshness that invites another sip.

Hasher Ernest Pinot Noir 2023
- Food Pairing : Hasher Ernest Pinot Noir’s elegant acidity and layered red fruit make it a superb partner for a wide range of dishes. Try it with roast duck breast or herb-crusted pork loin - the bright cherry and pomegranate notes will complement mild gaminess and savoury herbs. Mushroom risotto or grilled salmon nicely bridge the savoury and fresh fruit elements, with the wine’s soft tannins and refreshing acidity keeping the palate balanced. For a casual pairing, a charcuterie board of prosciutto, soft cheeses and olives brings out the Pinot’s perfume without overshadowing its finesse.
- Drink before: Enjoy for up to 5–12 years with careful cellaring - the structure and acidity support moderate ageing.
