Lomond Pincushion Sauvignon Blanc 2023
Lomond Wine Estate lies near Gansbaai in the Cape Agulhas appellation, one of South Africa's coolest wine-growing regions and among the most southerly vineyards on the continent. Constant maritime winds from the nearby Atlantic and Indian Oceans moderate temperatures throughout the growing season, allowing grapes to ripen slowly while retaining freshness and natural acidity.
Â
The Pincushion Sauvignon Blanc is produced from a registered single vineyard situated high on the south-eastern slopes of Ben Lomond. Sandy loam soils, cool sea breezes and the estate's unique biodiversity contribute to the wine's distinctive character. Named after the endangered Silver-edged Pincushion (Leucospermum patersonii), indigenous to the Agulhas region, the wine reflects both its natural surroundings and Lomond's commitment to sustainable viticulture. Grapes are hand-harvested, cold fermented and matured on the lees for eight weeks to enhance texture while preserving varietal purity.
Â
The Pincushion Sauvignon Blanc is one of Lomond's flagship single-vineyard wines and is widely regarded as a benchmark expression of cool-climate Sauvignon Blanc from Cape Agulhas.
Â
