Lomond Candelabra Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Situated in the cool-climate wine-growing region of Cape Agulhas, Lomond Wine Estate is one of South Africa's southernmost wine estates. The estate's vineyards are influenced by the nearby Atlantic and Indian Oceans, creating a longer ripening season that encourages flavour development while retaining freshness and structure.
The Candelabra range showcases site-specific wines from carefully selected vineyard blocks. For this Cabernet Sauvignon, the cool maritime climate helps produce fruit with purity and balance, while measured oak maturation contributes complexity without overwhelming the vineyard character. The result is a Cabernet Sauvignon that combines classic varietal expression with the distinctive freshness of Cape Agulhas.
Colour:
Deep ruby red with a youthful garnet edge.
Nose:
Aromas of blackcurrant, dark plum and cassis lead the bouquet, followed by notes of cedar, pencil shavings, dried herbs and subtle spice from oak maturation.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied with concentrated dark berry fruit supported by fine-grained tannins. Layers of blackcurrant, mulberry and plum are complemented by hints of tobacco leaf, cedar and cocoa. The cool-climate origin contributes freshness and focus, preventing the wine from becoming overly rich.
Finish:
Long and structured, with lingering cassis, savoury spice and gentle oak notes that persist elegantly on the finish.
- Food Pairing : Lomond Candelabra Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is a natural partner for grilled beef, Karoo lamb, slow-cooked oxtail and mushroom-based dishes. The wine's firm tannin structure and concentrated dark fruit stand up well to richer proteins, while its freshness helps cut through the richness of braised meats. Mature hard cheeses such as aged Cheddar or Gouda also complement the wine's savoury and cedar-driven character, making it a versatile choice for both hearty meals and relaxed winter entertaining.
