Fuselage Great White 2021 (FWA)
The Fuselage Great White 2021 is produced by Fuselage Wines, a small-scale Wellington producer founded by winemaker Danie Morkel. The winery operates alongside the Diemerskraal airfield between Wellington and Malmesbury, with aviation woven deeply into both the branding and philosophy of the range.
The vineyards are rooted in the warm, dry conditions of Wellington, where Rhône-style white varieties perform particularly well. Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Viognier form the core of the blend, supported by Chenin Blanc and a touch of Muscat Blanc for freshness and aromatics. The focus is on texture, drinkability and vineyard expression rather than heavy winemaking influence. Produced in relatively small quantities, Great White reflects a modern Cape white blend style: layered, savoury and Mediterranean in character while still retaining freshness and energy.
Colour:
Bright straw gold with flashes of green at the rim.
Nose:
Fragrant and expressive, showing pear, white peach and lime alongside floral notes, soft spice and hints of citrus blossom.
Palate:
The palate is fresh yet textured, with stone fruit, ripe pear and citrus layered over a gently savoury core. The Rhône varieties bring breadth and subtle waxy texture, while Chenin Blanc keeps the wine lively and focused. There is richness here, but the acidity keeps everything clean and balanced.
Finish:
Long and saline, with lingering citrus peel, peach skin and a softly savoury mineral note.
- Food Pairing : The Fuselage Great White 2021 suits food with both freshness and gentle richness. It pairs particularly well with grilled yellowtail, roast chicken with herbs or creamy seafood pasta, where the wine’s texture complements richer elements while the acidity keeps the palate refreshed. Cape Malay-style dishes also work beautifully, as the floral aromatics and subtle spice notes handle gentle curry flavours comfortably. For a simpler pairing, try it with mature hard cheeses or a Mediterranean-style mezze spread featuring hummus, olives and chargrilled vegetables.
