Flagstone Treaty Tree Classique White 2023
Flagstone Wines crafts distinctive, terroir-centered wines from the Helderberg and wider Western Cape region, where cool ocean breezes and varied soils help grapes achieve expressive fruit and lively natural acidity. The Flagstone Treaty Tree Classique White 2023 takes its name from Cape Town’s historic Treaty Tree in Woodstock, symbolising legacy and connection to place, and combines Sauvignon Blanc’s vibrant clarity with the rounder, textural weight of Sémillon. Hand-picked fruit, careful fermentation - including partial oak-barrel fermentation - and a thoughtful blending strategy result in a white blend that feels layered and complex without sacrificing drinkability or food-friendliness.
Colour: Intriguing light lime-green hue with white-gold highlights - bright and inviting in the glass.
Nose: The bouquet jumps out with focused aromas of gooseberry, citrus zest, asparagus and fresh herb tones, with subtle spice hints showing underlying complexity.
Palate: Creamy texture meets taut citrus and passionfruit flavours on the palate. Layers of ripe melon and herbal nuances are framed by crisp acidity, while a gentle suggestion of toasty oak lends balance and depth.
Finish: Long and satisfying, with lingering citrus, mineral tension and spice that keep the wine lively and engaging to the last sip.
- Food Pairing : The vibrant acidity and multi-layered fruit of Flagstone Treaty Tree Classique White 2023 make it a superb partner for a range of South African coastal and seafood dishes. It shines alongside steamed mussels in tomato sauce or crayfish cooked on the braai with olive-oil and garlic — the wine’s citrus and herbal notes echo the freshness of the sea. For heartier flavours, try snoek braaied the traditional way with marmalade, where its bright citrus and creamy texture balance the smoky sweetness. The wine’s complexity also lends itself well to rich salads with goat’s cheese and toasted nuts, or lemon-zested grilled calamari that mirrors its fruit and spice profile.
- Drink before: Enjoy now through the next 8–10 years with proper cellaring — this wine’s structure and complexity support medium-term development.
