Produced by Wellington Wines, the Duke Pinotage 2024 reflects the generous fruit and warm growing conditions of the Wellington region. The cellar itself is a long-standing co-operative made up of around 60 growers from Wellington and neighbouring areas including Paarl and the Swartland, giving the winery access to a broad range of vineyard sites and terroirs.
The Duke range was created to offer approachable, well-made wines that overdeliver for their price point while still expressing regional character. In the case of the Duke Pinotage 2024, the focus is firmly on ripe fruit, balance, and drinkability rather than heavy extraction or excessive oak influence.
Grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness before fermentation on the skins for colour and flavour extraction. A portion of the free-run wine was matured in oak barrels, adding subtle spice and structure while allowing the bright fruit profile to remain at the forefront.
Colour:
Dense ruby red with youthful brightness and a vibrant core.
Nose:
Expressive aromas of raspberry, cherry, blueberry and ripe plum lead the nose, followed by gentle spice, earthy undertones and subtle oak.
Palate:
Soft and juicy on entry, with generous red and purple berry fruit carried by fresh acidity and fine, ripe tannins. The wine has a smooth, medium-bodied texture with enough grip to keep the palate focused and balanced.
Finish:
Dry and lingering, with notes of cherry, spice and a touch of earthiness carrying through the finish.
