Deetlefs is one of the oldest family-owned wineries in South Africa, based in Rawsonville in the Breedekloof Valley. This region is known for its warm days and cooling mountain influences, allowing grapes to ripen fully while still retaining freshness. The Familie range represents the estate’s more premium, small-batch wines, often crafted from carefully selected vineyard parcels.
The Familie White 2019 is made from Sémillon sourced from older vines, where naturally lower yields contribute to concentration and depth. Winemaking leans toward a layered, textural style - including partial spontaneous fermentation, time on lees, and maturation in French oak - all of which add complexity without masking the varietal character.

Rich golden yellow, indicating both ripeness and some development.
Nose:
Layered and expressive, with aromas of orange peel, pineapple, and quince, alongside honeyed notes, subtle spice, and a gentle nuttiness.
Palate:
Full-bodied and textured, with a broad, almost waxy mouthfeel typical of Sémillon. Flavours of apricot, pineapple, and quince are supported by hints of dried herbs and a light oak influence. The structure is firm yet balanced, with freshness keeping the wine lifted.
Finish:
Long and structured, with lingering spice, fruit richness, and a savoury edge.
