Bosman Generation 8 Pinotage 2022
Bosman Family Vineyards traces its vine-growing heritage back to the late 17th century and today blends tradition with a fruit-forward, approachable style. The Generation 8 range is a Fairtrade-certified collection of single-varietal wines designed to showcase the pure, regional character of Wellington fruit - straightforward, balanced and versatile on the table. The 2022 Pinotage is sourced from vineyards in the fertile Wellington valley, where warm days and cool evenings encourage ripeness with fresh acidity. Winemaking for this cuvée emphasises gentle extraction and integration of oak, aimed at enhancing texture and depth while keeping the varietal fruit true and accessible.
Colour:
Deep ruby-garnet with a youthful sheen in the glass.
Nose:
Rich aromas of blackberry and plum come forward first, with hints of blackcurrant and blueberry. Subtle toasted oak and vanilla notes weave through, adding spice and warmth without dominating the fruit.
Palate: Medium-bodied and smooth, with soft, velvety tannins. The dark fruit core - ripe plum and berry - carries through clearly, supported by gentle oak-derived nuances of spice and a touch of cocoa. The wine feels balanced and plush on the palate, without heaviness.
Finish:
Lingering and approachable, with a soft echo of fruit and spice that invites another sip.
- Food Pairing : Bosman Generation 8 Pinotage 2022 pairs beautifully with mid-week fare and more relaxed meals that call for a juicy yet structured red. Think flame-grilled boerewors or BBQ lamb chops, where the wine’s soft tannins and ripe dark fruit glide alongside smoky spices and char. A tomato-rich beef stew or Cape Malay-spiced pie will echo the wine’s fruit and spice character, while a roast chicken with herb butter or grilled aubergine slices provides a fresher contrast that lifts the palate. For cheese boards, mature Gouda or smoked cheddar accentuate the wine’s gentle oak and berry notes without overpowering them.
