Benguela Cove Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2024
Benguela Cove Estate is located along the Bot River Lagoon in Walker Bay, just outside Hermanus, where vineyards sit close to the Atlantic Ocean. This coastal position creates a distinctly cool climate, with strong maritime winds and significant day–night temperature shifts that slow ripening and preserve natural acidity.
The estate focuses on site-driven wines, with all grapes grown, vinified, and bottled on the property. Sauvignon Blanc is particularly well suited to this environment, developing lifted aromatics alongside a saline, mineral edge that reflects its ocean proximity. Winemaking combines stainless steel fermentation for freshness with partial barrel work and lees ageing to build texture and complexity without losing clarity.
Colour:
Pale straw with a bright green tint, crisp and youthful in appearance.
Nose:
Aromatic and precise, showing green fig, grapefruit, and gooseberry, layered with flinty notes and hints of tropical fruit and lemon zest.
Palate:
Light- to medium-bodied with vibrant acidity. Flavours of citrus, green apple, and subtle tropical fruit are supported by a distinct saline minerality and a gentle textural weight from partial barrel fermentation.
Finish:
Clean and persistent, with a refreshing, mineral-driven close and a faint oyster shell note.
- Food Pairing : Benguela Cove Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2024 pairs naturally with seafood, where its acidity and saline edge mirror the freshness of the ocean - think grilled line fish, oysters, or prawn dishes. It also works well with goat’s cheese salads, where the wine’s acidity cuts through the creaminess, and with sushi or lightly spiced Asian dishes, where its citrus profile lifts delicate flavours. For something simple, it’s an excellent match for a summer salad with fresh herbs and citrus dressing, highlighting the wine’s bright, clean character.
