Bellevue Reserve Pinotage 2022
Bellevue Wine Estate lies in the Bottelary Hills of Stellenbosch, an area prized for red wines thanks to warm days, cooling afternoon breezes and well-drained granite and shale soils. These conditions help produce Pinotage with ripe fruit concentration, freshness and firm underlying structure.
Bellevue holds a special place in South African wine history as one of the early homes of Pinotage, with deep family roots and a long association with the country’s signature grape. The Reserve range draws from selected vineyard parcels and reflects a more serious, cellar-worthy expression of the variety. Careful oak maturation and patient winemaking aim for polish, depth and longevity while preserving the character of the fruit.
Colour:
Deep ruby red with a dark garnet core and youthful brightness.
Nose:
Violet perfume, black cherry and ripe plum rise first, followed by cedarwood, raspberry compote, sweet spice and a savoury earthy note.
Palate:
Rich and concentrated, with flavours of maraschino cherry, blackberry and dark plum supported by dense, fine-grained tannins. The texture is muscular yet refined, with freshness balancing the generous fruit weight. Subtle oak adds structure rather than dominance.
Finish:
Long and polished, finishing with dark berries, spice and a lingering savoury edge.
- Food Pairing : Bellevue Reserve Pinotage 2022 pairs beautifully with slow-roasted lamb shoulder, braaied ribeye, beef short ribs, venison pie or mature hard cheeses. Its firm tannin structure suits richer meats, while the concentrated fruit stands up well to smoky braai flavours. The savoury finish also makes it an excellent partner for aged cheese and mushroom-based dishes.
