Bellevue Wine Estate lays claim to some of the oldest commercial Pinotage plantings in the world, with vines established on cool southern slopes in the Bottelary Hills as far back as 1953. These heritage vines, rooted in Cartref soil and tended with continuity across generations, are the backbone of the Bellevue 1953 Heritage Pinotage. The estate’s philosophy for this wine is understated yet reverent: allow the mature vineyard to speak foremost, influenced by considered cellar work including cold soaking, French oak maturation and spontaneous malolactic fermentation to build texture and balance rather than flavour dominance.
Colour:
Deep ruby with a hint of garnet at the rim - a youthful yet classic Pinotage colour.
Nose:
Lifted aromas of bright raspberry, strawberry and maraschino cherry are woven with rosewater perfume and rich pomegranate. Underlying darker plum and earthy beetroot notes add complexity and a sense of terroir.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied, the palate melds vibrant red fruit intensity with silky tannins and mouthfilling texture. The oak influence is poised, lending subtle spice while preserving varietal purity, and the balance between fruit, structure and freshness feels poised for development.
Finish:
Long and lingering, with echoes of dark fruit and a savoury touch that lengthens the finish and invites another sip.
