Tierhoek Straw Wine NV

Tierhoek is a family-owned estate nestled high in the Piekenierskloof mountains, where vineyards benefit from warm sunny days, cool nights and weathered sandstone soils. This combination encourages grapes with concentrated fruit flavours while preserving the natural acidity that keeps the wines vibrant. The estate is known for thoughtful, low-intervention farming and a strong commitment to biodiversity. Its Straw Wine is crafted from old-vine Chenin Blanc that is harvested at normal ripeness before the bunches are naturally air-dried for around two weeks. The grapes are then fermented and matured in older French oak barrels, with successive releases blended through a solera system that builds remarkable depth and complexity while maintaining freshness.

Colour: Deep golden amber with brilliant clarity and rich viscosity in the glass.
Nose: Intense aromas of dried apricot, peach preserve and orange marmalade lead the way, followed by honey, raisin, citrus peel, rooibos and delicate floral notes with a gentle hint of marzipan.
Palate: Luxuriously textured and richly sweet, yet lifted by bright natural acidity that keeps the wine lively rather than heavy. Layers of dried stone fruit, honey, candied citrus and subtle spice unfold across the palate, while careful barrel maturation adds gentle complexity without dominating the fruit.
Finish: Long, clean and lingering, with notes of dried apricot, honey and orange peel carried by refreshing acidity.
