Spier Seaward Shiraz 2024
Spier Wine Farm, one of Stellenbosch's oldest and most respected estates, has been producing wine for more than three centuries. The Seaward range celebrates the influence of the Cape's maritime vineyards, sourcing fruit from carefully selected sites in the Coastal Region where cooling Atlantic breezes and the moderating effect of False Bay encourage slow, even ripening. These conditions help preserve freshness while developing concentrated fruit flavours. For the Spier Seaward Shiraz 2024, hand-harvested grapes from mature vineyards were fermented in stainless steel before spending 14 months in predominantly older French oak barrels, allowing the vineyard character and natural elegance of the Shiraz to remain at the forefront.
Colour: Deep ruby red with vibrant crimson highlights.
Nose: Aromatic notes of mulberry, blackberry and blackcurrant lead the way, followed by delicate hints of violet, cracked black pepper, anise and subtle baking spice.
Palate: Medium- to full-bodied with concentrated dark berry fruit supported by smooth, fine-grained tannins. The maritime influence brings freshness and lift, while restrained oak adds gentle spice without dominating the fruit.
Finish: Long and refined, with lingering black fruit, savoury spice and a subtle saline note that adds freshness to the final impression.
- Food Pairing : The Spier Seaward Shiraz 2024 is a versatile partner for richly flavoured dishes. Pair it with a flame-grilled ribeye, Karoo lamb chops or slow-cooked beef short ribs, where the wine's ripe fruit and smooth tannins complement the savoury richness of the meat. It also works beautifully with a hearty vegetarian moussaka, mushroom risotto or a generous charcuterie board, as its fresh acidity and subtle spice keep each bite lively and balanced.
- Drink before: Cellaring potential: Enjoy now for its vibrant fruit, or cellar for 5–8 years from the vintage under good storage conditions.
