Spier Seaward Cabernet Sauvignon 2024
Spier Wine Farm, one of South Africa's oldest wine estates, has been producing wine in Stellenbosch since 1692. The Seaward range celebrates the influence of the nearby Atlantic Ocean, where cooling maritime breezes help to slow ripening and preserve freshness in the fruit. Grapes for the Spier Seaward Cabernet Sauvignon 2024 are sourced from carefully selected coastal vineyards planted on decomposed granite and weathered shale soils, creating a wine that balances concentration with elegance. The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel before the wine matures for 14 months in predominantly second-fill French oak, with a smaller portion of American oak. This measured approach allows the Cabernet Sauvignon's fruit character and regional identity to remain at the forefront while adding subtle complexity.
Colour: Deep ruby red with youthful crimson highlights.
Nose: Rich aromas of ripe blackcurrant, blackberry and plum are complemented by cedar, sweet baking spice and subtle notes of dark chocolate and graphite.
Palate: Medium- to full-bodied with concentrated black fruit supported by fine, polished tannins. A lively thread of acidity keeps the wine fresh, while well-integrated oak adds layers of vanilla, cedar and gentle spice without dominating the fruit.
Finish: Long and poised, with lingering cassis, cedar and savoury spice leaving a clean, persistent impression.
- Food Pairing : Spier Seaward Cabernet Sauvignon 2024 is a natural partner for roast lamb with rosemary, grilled rib-eye steak, beef stroganoff or slow-cooked oxtail. Its structured tannins stand up well to richly flavoured meats, while the wine's vibrant acidity keeps each mouthful fresh. For a vegetarian option, try it alongside roasted portobello mushrooms or lentil and mushroom pie, where the earthy flavours echo the Cabernet's savoury complexity.
