Opstal Sixpence Cinsault Rosé 2025
Opstal Estate lies in the scenic Slanghoek Valley, a pocket of the Breedekloof Wine Valley framed by dramatic mountains that help create warm days and cool evenings during the growing season. The Sixpence range honours Daniel Smiles, affectionately known as "Sixpence", who tended the estate's sheep during the 1950s and 1960s before the grazing lands were transformed into vineyards. Today, many of those vineyards continue to produce the fruit for these approachable wines. The Cinsault vines grow in sandy soils scattered with river pebbles, encouraging naturally concentrated fruit, while the estate's commitment to mulching and composting promotes healthy soils and sustainable vineyard practices. Gentle skin contact, cool fermentation and a small addition of Colombard preserve the wine's bright fruit and refreshing style.
Colour: A delicate pale salmon pink with brilliant clarity.
Nose: Bright aromas of fresh strawberry and ripe cherry lead the way, supported by hints of raspberry and a subtle floral lift.
Palate: Light-bodied and refreshing, the palate offers juicy red berry flavours with crisp acidity that keeps everything lively. The touch of Colombard adds extra freshness, while the wine remains dry, clean and easy to enjoy.
Finish: Fresh and vibrant, with lingering notes of cherry, strawberry and a gentle citrus lift.
- Food Pairing : Opstal Sixpence Cinsault Rosé 2025 is a natural companion to relaxed summer meals. Pair it with sushi, a fresh Greek or Mediterranean salad, grilled prawns, smoked chicken wraps or a picnic featuring charcuterie and soft cheeses. Its crisp acidity refreshes the palate between bites, while the bright red fruit complements lighter dishes without overwhelming delicate flavours, making it an easy choice for alfresco lunches, braais and casual entertaining.
