Leopards Leap Special Edition Pinotage 2024
Leopard's Leap Family Vineyards, based in Franschhoek, has earned a reputation for producing approachable wines that reflect both quality and authenticity. The Special Edition range represents the estate's more premium expressions, showcasing carefully selected fruit from some of the Western Cape's best Pinotage-growing areas, including Paardeberg, Swartland and Breedekloof. Many of the vineyards are dryland bush vines, naturally limiting yields to produce concentrated fruit. The wine is matured for 14 to 16 months in a combination of French, American and Hungarian oak barrels, allowing the oak to add complexity while preserving the vibrant fruit character that makes Pinotage uniquely South African. The result is a wine that balances modern elegance with classic regional character.
Colour: Deep purple with a bright crimson rim, showing youthful intensity in the glass.
Nose: Generous aromas of mixed berry compote, ripe raspberry and cherry are layered with gentle notes of vanilla, oak spice and hints of nutmeg and black pepper.
Palate: Rich red and dark berry fruit takes centre stage, supported by soft, rounded tannins and well-integrated oak. The wine has a smooth, generous texture with enough freshness to keep it lively, while subtle spice adds complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
Finish: Long, polished and fruit-driven, finishing with lingering berry flavours, delicate spice and refined oak.
- Food Pairing : Leopard's Leap Special Edition Pinotage 2024 is an excellent partner for South African favourites such as flame-grilled lamb chops, beef burgers, slow-cooked oxtail or sticky barbecue ribs. Its ripe berry fruit and soft tannins also complement roast duck, mushroom dishes and mature cheddar. The wine has enough structure for richer meat dishes, while its freshness keeps every mouthful balanced and inviting, making it equally suited to a relaxed braai or a hearty family dinner.
