La Motte Millennium 2023

La Motte Wine Estate, situated in the Franschhoek Valley, is one of South Africa's historic wine farms, with roots dating back to the late 17th century and a strong connection to the region's French Huguenot heritage. Today the estate forms part of the Rupert family portfolio and is known for wines that combine classic European inspiration with distinctly Cape vineyard character. The La Motte Millennium 2023 reflects this philosophy through a Bordeaux-inspired blend built primarily around Merlot and Cabernet Franc, varieties well suited to the diverse soils and climates of the Cape Winelands. Grapes for the wine are sourced from selected vineyards in Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl, each contributing different elements of structure, fruit expression and aromatic complexity. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with regular pump-overs, after which the wine spends around 12 months maturing in French oak barrels to develop texture and subtle spice while maintaining the freshness of the fruit. The result is a polished, medium-bodied red blend that reflects both classic structure and modern drinkability. Colour: Deep ruby with a bright, youthful rim. Nose: Blackberry and ripe plum lead the aromatics, followed by hints of mulberry, dark toffee and fruitcake. Subtle notes of clove and roasted oak add warmth and complexity. Palate: Medium-bodied and smooth, with juicy dark berry fruit supported by soft, lively tannins. The Merlot brings roundness and approachability, while Cabernet Franc adds lift and gentle structure. Finish: Lingering and fruit-driven, finishing with notes of dark berries and mild spice.
