Benguela Cove Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2025
Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate lies on the shores of the Bot River Lagoon near Hermanus in Walker Bay, where the cool Atlantic Ocean exerts a strong influence on the vineyards. The maritime climate slows ripening, allowing the grapes to retain vibrant natural acidity while developing concentrated fruit flavours. The estate's shale, clay and iron-rich lateritic soils contribute structure and a distinctive mineral character that has become a hallmark of its wines. For the Benguela Cove Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2025, estate-grown fruit was harvested during the cool morning hours to preserve freshness. The wine was made primarily in stainless steel, with a small portion fermented in seasoned wooden vats to add texture, before spending around 80 days on its lees with regular stirring. The result is a Sauvignon Blanc that balances bright fruit with subtle complexity while remaining true to its cool-climate origins.
Colour: Pale straw with a youthful green hue and brilliant clarity.
Nose: Expressive aromas of gooseberry, grapefruit and green fig lead the bouquet, followed by notes of citrus blossom, crisp apple and a subtle saline freshness.
Palate: Fresh and lively with flavours of green melon, grapefruit, lime and crunchy apple. The texture is smooth yet energetic, supported by crisp acidity and a distinct mineral character that reflects its coastal origin.
Finish: Clean and persistent, finishing with lingering citrus zest, gentle salinity and a refreshing mineral edge.
- Food Pairing : Benguela Cove Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2025 is a natural partner for fresh West Coast oysters, grilled line fish, sushi, goat's cheese salad or creamy seafood pasta. Its bright acidity cuts through richer dishes while complementing delicate seafood, and the wine's citrus and mineral notes lift fresh herbs, leafy salads and lightly creamy sauces without overwhelming the flavours.
