Benguela Cove Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Benguela Cove Wine Estate is situated near Hermanus in the cool-climate Walker Bay wine region, where vineyards benefit from constant maritime influences off the Atlantic Ocean. Cooling sea breezes slow ripening, allowing grapes to develop concentrated flavours while retaining natural freshness and elegance. Owned by the Streeter family, Benguela Cove has earned a reputation for producing estate-grown wines that combine precision with a strong sense of place. The vineyards are planted on ancient shale and sandstone-derived soils, with careful vineyard management and thoughtful oak maturation helping to craft wines that balance structure, purity of fruit and longevity. The estate embraces both innovation and sustainability while remaining focused on expressing the distinctive character of Walker Bay.
Colour: Deep garnet with a youthful ruby edge.
Nose: Expressive aromas of blackcurrant, cassis and ripe black cherry are layered with cedar, pencil shavings, dried herbs and subtle hints of dark chocolate and tobacco.
Palate: Full-bodied yet poised, offering concentrated dark berry fruit supported by fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Well-integrated French oak contributes notes of vanilla spice and cedar without overpowering the fruit, resulting in a wine that is both structured and approachable.
Finish: Long, dry and persistent, with lingering cassis, savoury herbs and gentle oak spice.
- Food Pairing : Benguela Cove Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is an excellent match for grilled rib-eye steak, slow-roasted leg of lamb, beef fillet with mushroom sauce, venison pie or mature Cheddar. Its firm yet polished tannins complement richly flavoured meats, while the wine's freshness keeps each bite balanced. Earthy dishes featuring mushrooms or rosemary also echo the Cabernet's savoury character, making it a natural choice for hearty South African cuisine.
