Warwick Professor Black Pitch Black 2020
The history of Warwick Estate, situated in the foothills and mid-slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain, began when the first title deed was issued for the land in 1771. For almost two hundred years, it was a hugely productive fruit farm. It was only in 1964 that the Ratcliffe Family arrived on the scene, and it took winemaker Norma Ratcliffe, alongside her husband Stan, twenty years before they released their first wine. The Warwick Professor Black Pitch Black 2020 is a red wine blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsaut, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Deep purple in colour, the nose is dark and inviting, with notes of spice and dried herbs, followed by purple flowers and a hint of cedar and cigar box. The palate is lush and smooth, with hints of blackcurrant, cassis, aniseed, coffee beans, and cedarwood. Finely packed tannins and fresh acidity makes this an ideal wine to mature and will reward careful cellaring over the next three to five years.
