Rainbow's End Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Cabernet Sauvignon
Description
Rainbow’s End Wine Estate is a small, family-owned farm perched high on the slopes above the Banghoek Valley near Stellenbosch. The estate sits at elevations of up to around 540 metres, backed by the Jonkershoek Mountains and overlooking one of Stellenbosch’s most dramatic vineyard landscapes. The altitude and surrounding mountain amphitheatre create cooler nights and slower ripening, conditions well suited to structured varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon.
Owned and run by the Malan family, Rainbow’s End focuses on boutique red wines made in limited quantities. Vineyard work is hands-on and yields are kept deliberately low to encourage concentration. Grapes are hand-picked and vinified with a mix of traditional and modern techniques, including maturation in French oak barrels. The aim is to produce wines that combine the structure associated with classic Cabernet with the generous fruit typical of Stellenbosch.
Colour:
Deep ruby with a dense core and youthful clarity in the glass.
Nose:
Aromas of ripe plum and blueberry lead the bouquet, followed by cassis, hints of fynbos and a subtle touch of dark chocolate from oak maturation.
Palate:
Full-bodied with bold dark fruit at its centre. Flavours of blackcurrant, plum and dark berries are layered with savoury herbaceous notes typical of Cabernet Sauvignon. Fine, powdery tannins provide structure while oak adds gentle spice and depth.
Finish:
Structured and persistent, finishing with lingering dark fruit and a savoury herbal edge supported by firm but polished tannins.

Rainbow's End Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
- Food Pairing : The structure and dark fruit profile of Rainbow’s End Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 from Rainbow’s End Wine Estate in Stellenbosch make it particularly suited to rich, savoury dishes. It pairs well with grilled ribeye steak or a classic braai where the protein softens the wine’s tannins. Slow-roasted lamb with rosemary works beautifully with Cabernet’s herbal notes, while hearty dishes such as beef short rib or oxtail stew echo the wine’s depth and concentration. For a simpler option, mature cheddar or gouda complements the wine’s structure and subtle oak spice.
